Vodafone Mobile Broadband - for computer or tablet that use Windows 8

Vodafone Mobile Broadband service will work perfectly in a Windows 8 environment using your existing VMB USB modem. The only thing you’ll need to do is to install the latest software version of Vodafone Mobile Broadband to manage your Windows 8 connection and make sure that Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 is present on the system you are going to use.

So, in order to get your VMB USB device to work in Windows 8 you’ll need to do the following:

  • Use Windows 8 Operating System
  • Make sure that .NET Framework 3.5 is present on your system(Control Panel> Programs> Programs and Features), otherwise install it manually in an online environment
  • Always perform a custom installation of VMB and deselect the optimization client.

Note: In case that VMB does not detect the device after an upgrade to Windows 8, please remove VMB and re-install it.

Further information on how to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and from where to download the latest software version is provided below.

In order to use the Vodafone Mobile Broadband service you will need to install the full version of the application (VMB Software Release 10) which you can find by clicking here.

To use Release 10 of Vodafone Mobile Broadband on a computer running Microsoft Windows 8, you’ll need to have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed.

Microsoft does not include this in Windows 8, but computer vendors such as Dell, HP and Lenovo install it in the factory, so it may already be on your computer.

If you do a fresh install of Windows 8, or if you’ve upgraded to it from Windows 7, XP or Vista, .NET Framework 3.5 won’t be on your computer. In this case, the Vodafone Mobile Broadband 10 installer will automatically go to download .NET Framework 3.5 – so you’ll need to be connected to the internet when installing.

You can also get .NET Framework 3.5 from this Microsoft webpage in advance.

If you are unable to connect your computer to the Internet, you can install .NET Framework 3.5 from the ISO image or DVD that you used when installing Windows 8. Insert the disk or mount the image and then type the following command from an elevated command prompt:

Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:E:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

Where E: is the drive letter for your Windows 8 ISO image or DVD.
